1. Buckle your seat belt

Seat belts save lives. You know this, so just do it. Also, ensure all passengers in your vehicle are buckled up for safety.

2. Follow the rules of the road

Stick to the speed limit. Don’t speed. Maintain an appropriate speed. Follow traffic signals, and road signs. Come to a complete stop at stop signs. Red means red. Don’t chance it on yellow lights.

3. Stay alert and be prepared

Be aware of what’s going on around you on the road. Know what other drivers are doing. Make adjustments for weather and keep a two-second cushion between you and the car in front of you, especially during rain and snow. Don’t drive when sleepy and drunk.

4. Avoid distractions

Don’t text talk on your cell phone while driving. In some states, there’s a fine for doing so. Also, don’t eat or apply makeup.

5. Keep your vehicle safe

Keep your car maintained and make sure your vehicle is good to go. Check your oil regularly. Keep your tires properly inflated. Rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Get regular brake checks. Make sure your wiper blades are ready for rainy days.
