In the heart of every community, unsung heroes inspire us with their resilience and courage. At America’s Car-Mart of Milledgeville, Ga., we honor one such remarkable individual—one of our loyal, wonderful customers.
Veronica Harper’s story is one of survival and triumph against all odds. Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2002, Veronica faced her battle head-on and emerged victorious, cancer-free for 22 years. Her journey is marked by unwavering determination and faith.
“Veronica’s bravery in confronting and overcoming cancer serves as a beacon of hope, and we are immensely proud to have her as part of our Car-Mart family,” says Jae Minor, General Manager, Car-Mart of Milledgeville. “Her positive attitude and determination truly embody the spirit of our Car-Mart community.”
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Veronica for bravely sharing her cancer journey. We hope her firsthand account will provide valuable insight and support to other women.

Q: When you first heard you had cancer, what went through your head?
A: I had to have eight rounds of chemo. The first four rounds were different from the last four. On the second night of the chemo, I lost all my hair in one night.
My mom was with me. I sat in silence and shock until we drove home from Macon to Milledgeville. When I got home, I went to my room and talked to the Lord. I asked him to lead me. I had accepted everything from Macon to Milledgeville, but I knew I had the Lord first. Cancer is tough. I never liked pity parties because I know you are the only one there at pity parties.
Q: How are you coping, and do you have a support system?
A: My support system is my children. “They were there with me through every side effect of chemo, including various physical changes and painful discomforts.”
I knew I still wanted to work because if I lay in bed one day, I would have to lay for two days, and so my brother and my children would drive me to work because my eyes couldn’t keep up with the road.
Q: What keeps you strong?
A: What makes me strong is knowing my family is okay. God has allowed me to see my grandchildren grow and my children grow.
Q: What message do you have for other people with cancer?
A: With each step you go through, don’t give up; stand and fight! I fought for my family. My son told me my first granddaughter would be born in March, so I finished all my treatments in December and threw my first granddaughter the BIGGEST baby shower.
Q: Why is America’s Car-Mart your go-to-source for a vehicles?
A: Experience is the best teacher. Everyone has to experience Car-Mart for themselves. Go see Car-Mart!
